On December 28, 2000, Montgomery Ward, LLC and its related entities (“Montgomery Ward”) filed a chapter 11 petition in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois, assigned case No. 00-04667. A Plan of Liquidation was confirmed and an Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors was appointed to oversee the estate.

About Montgomery Ward, LLC
Founded in 1872, Montgomery Ward was a retailer of apparel, footwear, home furnishings and jewelry. The company pioneered mail-order catalogs and was the first mail-order house to sell general merchandise in the United States. In 1985, the company’s founder, Aaron Montgomery Ward also established the sales practice, “satisfaction guaranteed or your money back”. The company also had a decorated and colorful history. A Montgomery Ward employee was the author and creator of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Montgomery Ward published the booklet in 1939. At its peak, the company operated in 31 states and employed 37,000 people.
